Dreamland Arts

In 2005, my wife Leslye Orr and I bought a somewhat rundown mixed use residential and commercial property in the Hamline Midway neighborhood of St. Paul. We spent a few months remodeling the commercial building into an intimate, but well-equipped, 40-seat theater. We lived in a house next door, attached to the theater building through an underground passage. We named the theater Dreamland Arts after a dilapidated movie theater in Secunderabad, India, where I had seen many movies as a child. We ran the theater for almost 18 years, performing our own plays, and hosting hundreds of plays, music concerts, puppet shows, films and classes. In July 2023, we sold the combined house and theater property to theater artists Laura Rudolph Morris and Eric Morris, who now run the theater as The Hive Collaborative.
